Gratiola viscidula

Original price was: ₹110.Current price is: ₹100./-

Gratiola viscidula originates from Northern America and is relatively new to the aquatic hobby. The somewhat ‘thorny’ appearance of the submersed form makes it very distinct and easily recognizable.
It is quite easy to grow and prefers good light. By regular trimming it can be kept very low, almost carpeting, but will also present itself well as a fore/mid-ground cushion-plant.

Each stem is approximately 1-2 cm wide and can become 10+ cm tall. The stem willingly branches and spreads giving a very dense appearance to the plant.

Description

This North-American Gratiola species is one of the most interesting new aquarium plants. It is still very rare in Europe. It is related to the European Gratiola officinalis, however, it differs very much from it. This delicate stem plant has a compact growth habit, forming dense, flattish-wide light green cushions in the tank. The small, narrow, decussate leaves have a sharp point, which gives the plant a somewhat prickly texture. The shoots have thick rigid stems and grow to a width of only 1.5 to 2 cm. They can reach a height of over 20 cm, however, they can be kept lower by regular trimming. Gratiola viscidula should be planted in a bright place. It is a rather slow grower. According to our experience it is rather robust. G. viscidula is probably suitable for cold-water tanks, as it comes from a temperate climate.
