Tonina fluviatilis

100/-

Tonina fluviatilis is a plant species in the Eriocaulaceae. native to southern Mexico, Central America, northern South America, Cuba and Trinidad. TheTonina fluviatilis is considered a demanding plant and requires the knowledge of an experienced hobbyist. Its uncommon, fresh greed foliage makes this plant a wonderful green accent for the middle- and background of an aquarium. Due to its moderate growth rate, its strictly upright habit and its adaptable height it is especially suitable for Dutch-style tanks.

T. fluviatilis enjoys soft water; a low KH (4 or less) and low to moderate GH (3 to 8) are prerequisites.

The choice of substrate is not overly important because T. fluviatilis is not a strong root feeder, but acidic substrates effectively condition the aquarium and help maintain the general requirement of soft water. Substrates that are known to leach carbonates are not recommended.

Lighting: Demands high intensity lighting.

CO2 : CO2 injection is a necessity and must be done on a regular basis.

FERTILIZATION : Water column fertilization is beneficial to T. fluviatilis. Balanced amounts of nitrogen, potassium, and phosphate should be present. Light fertilization is appropriate, as this species is not a greedy feeder compared to other stem plants. For best appearance and color, micronutrients, including iron, should be available in the water column.
